Phillip Fivel Nessen

For some reason the work of Phillip Fivel Nessen makes me think of Langston Hughes. I'm pretty sure it's because I used to have a book of Langston Hughes poetry with a cover that looked like his work. It's hard to tell what inspiration my brain has for making connections between concepts. It's like trying to look at the outside of a house from the inside. Damn, I hope that wasn't too deep for you; sometimes I'm just amazingly profound. Profundity aside, I like Nessen's bright colors and contrasting linework; makes his work seem like a rough woodcut. You should also check out a blog called Blow Your Horn Hunter that he's got going with Abe Twist, Max Holyoke-Hirsch, Cornelia O'Donovan, Drew Beckmeyer, Luke Best, Jon Klassen, and Jesse Hadden. That's a pretty serious roster of artists to be blogging with. Some Justice League type steez.
